NRCS Soil Data Viewer

The Soil Data Viewer is an application that can be installed on your computer and used in conjunction with both the ArcView shapefiles (GIS) and Microsoft © Access 97 database files for each soil survey unit.

The application is run like an ArcView extension, but the Access component can be used as a stand-alone application to view and generate reports even in the absence of the GIS data.

Soil Data Viewer 3.0 Downloads

The Soil Data Viewer 3.0 stand-alone requires a computer running Windows 95/98/NT/ or 2000. In addition Microsoft © Word 97 or 2000 is required. For mapping, an ArcView version (3.1 through 3.2a) is required. Links and instructions are provided below:

The download files are in zip format. Please unzip the downloaded files to any directory on your computer and then run the setup.exe program to begin installation. During the installation process your computer may re-boot one or more times.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Montana version of the SDV has specific rules and updates specific to the state. You must download and install this file for most accurate results. Instructions are provided here.

PLEASE NOTE:

The Soil Data Viewer (SDV) requires Microsoft © Data Access Components (MDAC) version 2.6. The Soil Data Viewer installation program will attempt to update your machine, however, we have found that the install works better if you install the MDAC upgrade FIRST, then run the SDV install package. The MDAC download is available from Microsoft here. We have also found that you should be logged on to your machine using an administrator account before making this upgrade. Then log on as the normal user to install the SDV.
