NAIP 2011 Aerial Photos are Available from the State Library

Aerial photos from the 2011 National Agricultural Imagery Program (NAIP) are now available for download in MrSID format from the Montana State Library.  The web site for selecting images to download is at http://nris.mt.gov/nsdi/orthophotos/naip_2011.asp.

Each image covers an area 24 kilometers (15 miles) square and is approximately 100 megabytes.  These images are twice the height and width of the 2005 and 2009 images that have been available from the Library.

The 2011 NAIP is also available as an ArcGIS Image Service from the U.S. Department of Agriculture at http://gis.apfo.usda.gov/ArcGIS/rest/services/NAIP/Montana_2011_1m_NC/ImageServer.  The Base Map Service Center will make a 4-band (red, green, blue, near infrared) version of the data available as an image service in the near future.  The data may also be viewed with our Topofinder application at http://nris.mt.gov/gis/topofinder.asp.

The MrSID images for the entire state have a total size of about 70 gigabytes.  If you want the entire collection, we can put it on your external storage device if you send it to us along with return postage.  Please contact nris@mt.gov to arrange this.

The 4-band TIFF image version of the data is also available.  This consists of 6022 images that are each approximately 5 miles square and 375 megabytes in size, for a total size of just over 2 terabytes.  These images are also available if you want to send us an external storage device.
