Instructions, Search Tips/Hints
This query system is intended to be as easy to use as possible. Simply select an option
from the drop down lists or enter text or numbers in the text fields and click on the submit
button.
Required Fields
You must select at least one option to perform a search. If you do not select at least one
option you will not be allowed to continue.
Text Searches
When searching for records using the text fields (e.g. Facility Name), follow these guidelines:
- Begin your text search by typing in a minimum number of characters for your first search. For
example, if you are searching for "Montana Refining Company, Inc." begin your search by typing in just
"Refining" and see if you get the desired result before typing in more of the name.
- Use full words. For example, use "rail" rather than "ail" when searching for records with
"rail" in the name.
- When entering multiple words, enter them with spaces as in "rail link". This will return
all records with the words "rail" AND "link" in the name.
- If you are not sure of spelling, you may use the wildcard character (*) as a suffix. For
example: "ald*" would return all records with the letters "ald" in the beginning of a word. NOTE:
You cannot use the wildcard as a prefix as in "*ontana".
Result Sets
All result sets are returned sorted on a name column. Most columns are sortable in ascending
or descending order by simply clicking on the column header.
Tips
The fewer options you select before submitting the broader your search will be. Start broad and
the enter more options to narrow your search if necessary.
