DROUGHT STATISTICS/MEASUREMENTS
  1. Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI) is a water balance index that considers water supply (precipitation), demand (evapotranspiration) and loss (runoff).
  2. Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) is a probability index that considers only precipitation.
  3. Crop Moisture Index (CMI) measures moisture supply in the short term across major crop-producing regions and is not intended to assess long-term droughts.
  4. Surface Water Supply Index (SWSI) maps produced by NRIS/NRCS.
  5. National Fire Danger Rating (NFDRS) for Dead Fuel Moisture maps that display ambient environmental conditions to determine fire potential.
  6. Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) is a drought index for fire potential assessment representing the net effect of evapotranspiration and precipitation in producing cumulative moisture deficiency in deep duff and upper soil layers.
